Please note that Judy Simmons is no longer with
The Turtle Ranch, and I am only taking in
animals on an emergency basis.
The mission of The Turtle Ranch is to provide a long term habitat
where turtles and tortoises who cannot survive in the wild can
live out the rest of their lives.  This applies equally to both
captive bred pets who have outgrown the habitats or are no
longer wanted and to injured turtles who need assistance.  I also
focus on conservation and education.

I do rescues of pets in need of a home, and relocation of wild
turtles who face danger if they remain in their current location.  I
offer education to the general public and pet store staff on an
ongoing basis.

I have been focusing a lot of attention on the Yahoo! groups for
Houston area turtle lovers, Red Eared Sliders, and an international
list on lizard husbandry.  I try to host meetings for the Houston
Turtlers at my home several times a year.

One of the things for which I'm
most grateful about getting into
reptile rescue is having the
opportunity to learn about snakes.
In educating others, I am able to
help them overcome their fears as
I've overcome my own.  At the very
least, I've been able to talk  several
of my neighbors into calling me
whenever they find snakes on their
properties.

I'm far from an expert on snakes,
but I enjoy working with them.

This award was presented to The Turtle Ranch by Misty
Corton from Africa.  She has been one of my kindest
sources of encouragement over the years.

Special thanks to Mac Dunford with Airline Hydroponics for his time, ideas, and assistance.   My friend Michelle has been responsible for helping me
find furniture and appliances.  My friends Jim and Donna let me use their guest room while Jim and I were renovating the new place.  My friends Bo and
Carrie helped me in more ways than I can put into words.  I also wish to thank all of the other turtle keepers who've been so generous in sending me
supplies, money, and words of encouragement after the fire.
I love the WCT because one of their primary goals is
education.  I firmly believe that education is the key to
conservation.
